Bottled Water vs Community Water

About this topic

People drink bottled water for many reasons. Some people like its taste. Others drink it because of health concerns or in place of some other liquid. Some people drink it because of the convenience. It is important to learn about your bottled water and the water in your community. Then you can make the best choice for you and your family. ‚

General

Water that comes from a community water system may be different than bottled water. Many brands of bottled water are in fact filtered water from the community water system. Community water supplies may add fluoride to or take fluoride out of the water. This is based on the levels of the fluoride in the water. You may need to order a water testing kit to check the levels of fluoride in your community water. ‚

What will the results be?

Bottled water may be good for you, but it also carries some risks. Bottled water may not have any fluoride in it. Check the label to see how much fluoride you are getting. You need fluoride to help keep your teeth strong and healthy. Look and see if the water has been distilled or filtered to get rid of germs that can cause illnesses. ‚

What drugs may be needed?

Young babies who are only breastfed may need to take extra fluoride. Most other people get enough fluoride from drinking water or using toothpaste and mouthwashes. ‚
