About this topic
A baby spends much time sleeping. Parents and caregivers must make sure the baby sleeps in a safe place. You need to think about many things like where the baby sleeps, how the baby sleeps, and the bedding you use. ‚
General
- Put your baby in a safe position.
- Place your baby on his back.
- Put your baby back in the crib after breastfeeding.
- Offer a clean pacifier when your baby is going to sleep.
- Make sure your babys crib is safe.
- Cribs with sides that drop should not be used.
- Choose a firm, flat mattress. The mattress should be covered with a tight-fitted sheet.
- Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby's sleep area. Items like bumper pads, quilts, and pillows are just a few to name. The only item in the crib should be your baby.
- Make sure your baby cannot crawl out of the crib and fall if he wakes up in the middle of the night.
- Keep your baby close by.
- Place the crib near your bed. Your baby should be in his own crib.
- If possible, give your baby a separate sleep area. Your baby should not sleep in a bed, couch, or chair where other children or adults are sleeping. In the same room is OK.
- Protect your baby.
- Keep your baby away from smoke or people who smoke.
- Keep the sleeping area clean.
