Try rhyming to remember a name. "Ed likes the color red. " �Be social.- Volunteer. Spend time helping other people.
- Spend time with family or friends.
Take good care of your body.- Don't smoke. If you are a smoker, ask your doctor for help in quitting.
- Don't drink beer, wine, and mixed drinks (alcohol).
- Find out what a healthy weight is for you and eat a variety of foods to keep a healthy weight. Leafy green vegetables, fruits, salmon and tuna, lean meats, and whole grain breads or cereals are good choices. Avoid sugar.
- See your doctor on a regular basis. Ask your doctor what you can do to manage your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar.
- Exercise often. Even a short walk each day can help.
Sleep well.- Try to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night.
When do I need to call the doctor?
Call the doctor if you or a loved one: � �
- Forgets the names of close friends or family
- Cannot keep track of drugs and may take too little or too much
- Is not aware of a problem with memory loss
- Cannot recall common words or uses odd words in place of a common word
- Gets lost in places often visited or is not able to find the way home
- Puts things in odd places
- Has rapid mood swings
- Has trouble making decisions
- Has worry about memory loss or memory loss is causing problems each day
