Reiki

About this topic

Reiki is a type of alternative therapy. It is a Japanese technique that may help you relax, ease your stress, and help you heal. Reiki is based on the belief that there is an energy field around a person. Some people believe energy flows from the universal life force. In Reiki, the practitioner lays the hands on you or near you. Then, energy from the universal source flows through the practitioners hands to you. ‚
The goal of this treatment is to help with healing and lessen problems you may be having. Some people use the practice of Reiki to lower stress, fatigue, pain, and to help with relaxation. ‚

General

Most often, you will lie on a treatment table with your clothes on. The practitioner will place his hands on you gently or just above you. There is no massage or pressure during Reiki treatment. After a time, the practitioner will move the hands to other positions to help balance the flow of energy. You may feel warm, tingling, or a pulsing sensation where the practitioners hands are. You may feel these sensations moving throughout your body. You may feel nothing at all. You may become very relaxed and fall asleep during the treatment. ‚
It is important to know that Reiki should not take the place of seeing your regular doctor. It may be used to complement or in combination with other kinds of care and treatment. ‚
