Marijuana is a drug that comes from the leaves and flowers of the marijuana plant. In some places, marijuana may be prescribed by a doctor to help with your care and is called medical marijuana. In other places, it is not legal to use this drug. ‚  

General


  • Marijuana can be used in many forms. You may eat medical marijuana in food or candy. It may also be smoked or breathed in through an aerosol device. Some people cough when smoking or inhaling marijuana.
  • Based on where you live, you may need a prescription from your doctor to be able to get these products. In some states, you may not be able to get these.
  • When using marijuana, you may feel good and more relaxed. You may also be more tuned in to your surroundings.
  • After a while, you may feel more tired or even have a low mood. Marijuana may get in the way of you being able to form new memories. It can also cause problems with your balance and coordination.
  • Medical marijuana may also cause side effects like a headache, dry eyes, or dry mouth. You may also feel dizzy, lightheaded, or numb.
  • This drug may cause you to be sleepy. Take extra care driving and doing tasks that you need to be alert for.
  • Avoid beer, wine, mixed drinks (alcohol), or other drugs and natural products that slow your actions.

What will the results be?


Many people believe marijuana can help you: ‚  
  • Feel more hungry if you have cancer or HIV.
  • Control an upset stomach or throwing up caused by chemo.
  • Ease pain from cancer, surgery, or worry.
  • Lower pressure in your eyes if you have glaucoma.
  • Sleep better and have less muscle spasms if you have multiple sclerosis.
  • Have less problems if you have irritable bowel syndrome.

What problems could happen?


  • This drug may be habit-forming with long-term use.
  • Smoke from marijuana has many of the same chemicals as cigarette smoke. It may be harmful to your lungs.
