How to Take Your Newborn's Temperature

  • Remove the device and throw away the used probe cover.

  • How to Take a Forehead Temperature ‚  
    • Wipe your baby's forehead dry.
    • Press the soft cup of the device or the whole plastic strip against the forehead of your baby.
    • Leave the device in place for the needed amount of time or swipe the device over your baby's forehead.
    • Read the temperature before removing the device if using a plastic strip thermometer.
    • Clean the device with a damp cloth and dry well.

    How to Use a Pacifier Thermometer ‚  
    • Let your baby suck on the nipple of the device for the needed amount of time or until it beeps. This most often takes about 3 to 4 minutes.
    • Remove the device and read it.
    • Clean the device with cool, soapy water. Rinse with water and dry with a cloth.

    You will get an accurate temperature of your baby. Be sure to tell the doctor how you took your babys temperature. ‚  

    Will there be any other care needed?


    Do not take your babys temperature right after a bath. ‚  

    When do I need to call the doctor?


    • Temperature reading is 100.4 ‚ °F (38 ‚ °C) or higher
    • Your baby is fussy, sleepy, or seems uncomfortable
