What happens during the procedure?

Your doctor will want to keep the wound moist and free from infection. Dead tissue will be removed. There are a few ways to clean a wound so it heals more quickly. Your doctor will decide how and where to clean your wound. Doctors can change dressings in a hospital or in outpatient centers. The length and type of procedure depends on the kind of wound you have. ‚
Here are some ways to clean wounds: ‚

Other bandages can help your body dissolve the dead tissue from the edges of the wound. Sometimes, special drudges are put on the wound before putting on the dressing. These can make it heal faster. They can also help fight infection.
  • Very bad wounds may need surgery to help them heal. The doctor will cut away dead, infected tissue. The wound is washed and a dressing put on. Your doctor will ask you not to have anything to eat or drink for a while before this kind of surgery.
  • Your doctor may use clean fly larvae on the sore to help clean away unhealthy tissue and infection.
