Color Vision Testing

Why is this procedure done?

This test checks how well you can see colors. Even if you can see colors, you may have problems seeing the contrast of shades of reds and greens. Some people have problems seeing the contrast of shades of blues and yellows. ‚

What will the results be?

If your color vision is normal, you are able to see all the symbols. If you have problems seeing the symbols, you might have problems with your color vision. ‚

What happens before the procedure?

It helps to talk about this test to children ahead of time. Tell them how it will feel or show them how it will be done. The doctor may ask your child to pick out something with a certain color. If you or your child wears glasses, be sure to bring them for this test. ‚

What happens during the procedure?

You will sit in a chair with regular lighting. The doctor will talk about the test with you. You will look at some cards with many colored dot patterns. The doctor will ask if you see a number or symbol that may be formed in the colored dots. Tell the doctor what number or symbol you see. The doctor may also do other tests. Your eyes may be checked one at a time by the doctor. ‚

What happens after the procedure?

You may go home right after the test. ‚

What care is needed at home?

You can go back to your normal activities. ‚

What follow-up care is needed?

Your doctor may ask you to make visits to the office to check on your progress. Be sure to keep these visits. ‚

What lifestyle changes are needed?

Ask your doctor if you have any concerns about your eyes. ‚
