It will not make your stomach upset. ‚  

What changes to diet are needed?


  • Eat small meals more often during the day.
  • Stay away from spicy or seasoned foods.
  • Eat slowly and chew your food carefully.
  • Do not eat for at least 2 hours before going to bed.

Who should use this diet?


People with ulcers, heartburn, upset stomach, gas, or throwing up should eat a bland diet. ‚  

What foods are good to eat?


  • Low-fat milk and other dairy products
  • Cooked, canned, or frozen vegetables
  • Fruit and vegetable juices
  • Cooked or canned fruit with no skin or seeds
  • Breads, crackers, and pasta made with white flour
  • Hot cereals like oatmeal or cream of wheat
  • Lean, tender meats that are steamed, baked, or grilled with no added fat
  • Creamy peanut butter
  • Pudding and custard
  • Eggs
  • Tofu
  • Soup
  • Weak tea

What foods should be limited or avoided?


  • Fatty dairy foods
  • Raw vegetables
  • Strong cheese
  • Vegetables that can cause gas like broccoli, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts
  • Fresh or dried fruits
  • Whole grain or bran cereals, bread, crackers, or pasta
  • Pickles, sauerkraut, and similar foods
  • Spices like hot pepper and garlic
  • Foods with a lot of sugar or honey in them
  • Seeds and nuts
  • Meat or fish that has been seasoned or cured, like sardines or bacon
  • Fried foods
  • Chocolate
  • Beer, wine, and mixed drinks (alcohol)

When do I need to call the doctor?


  • You are not feeling better in 2 to 3 days or you are feeling worse
  • If you have questions about your diet
